Animation Add-On

Postby sjam986 » Wed May 13, 2020 5:37 am

I am fairly new to FreeCad and Python. I am trying to set up an animation of a simple crank, conrod & piston using 'Part' and 'Animation' workbenches. Part workbench is fine. I am struggling with Animation. Placer and Manager are ok - I followed the tutorials. I cannot find any detailed information on how to use the other functions in Animation, such as Rotator. Can anyone point me to the information I need. I would prefer not to have to insert Python code. I am on Windows 10 using FreeCad 18.4 - 32-bit.

If you mean this workbench https://github.com/microelly2/Animation, http://freecadbuch.de/doku.php?id=Animation%20Wokbench

The author of that workbench, microelly2, has many different tools and workbenches, but a lot of them are experimental and not quite up to date. Some of them work, some of them may not, some of them haven't received updates in years, others you may be able to get to work by editing a few things, etc. You'd have to ask him directly.

Also, don't use 32-bit. It's pretty old. Use 64-bit, it's 2020.

The Assembly 4 workbench is capable of creating some impressive animations. You can check out this thread for some examples. It might require making changes to your model tree structure though.

Thanks for that. I will try 64-bit and Assembly 4.

Thanks Zolko - I now know it can be done!

I have a problem with the installation of Assembly 4 - I have installed FC19, latest version and that runs well. When I run the Add-on Manager to install Assembly 4 it seems to load correctly in that the Assembly 4 WB appears in FC. However, when I try to start Assembly 4, I get an error:
A pop-up window appears with the message:
FC Workbench failure:
No module named 'showCommand'
Also a message appears in the Report window:
No module named 'showCommand'
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<string>", line 97, in Initialize

What is the cure please?

Aaaahhhhrrrrggggg ! That was a test command that I had left in place ! Very very sorry, is fixed now. Can you please update the workbench with the AddonManager and test again ?

Next problem: I am following the Assembly4 video tutorial for the shaft with bearings. In Assembly4 I have opened the 3 files asm_tuto1, axis and bearing, eache having sub-files of Origin, LCS origin, Contraints and Variables. After selecting Model in the axis file, I tried to insert a body. The pop-up window appears with the default 'body' name. When I click OK, nothing appears in the model tree.
Also, I have tried to find the written tutorial for this in Github, but can't find it.
