[Poll] Where are you from?

Post by vanuan »

Let's see what's our active user base.

From the forum, I can see that most non-English native users are in a French and German-speaking country. Much less are in Hungary, Japan, a surprisingly small user base in China.

Let's vote and discuss results.

P.S. Sorry if I forgot any part of the world.
P.P.S Sorry if this was already such a poll. Please point me to it.

Maybe somebody could share some analytics data? Maybe GitHub and the website can give a clue where the most of downloads are? Does the forum have analytics?

The only sort of statistic that I've seen comes from the Ubuntu Snap store, https://snapcraft.io/freecad

OpenCASCADE is from France, and FreeCAD was started in Germany, so the early adopters seem to hail from Germany, France, and Italy principally. Apparently there are many downloads from the US but it's hard to notice.

GitHub is banned in certain countries like Iran and Afghanistan, so this limits software distribution in these places. Indeed there is a surprising lack of Chinese users; I guess they have the means of getting professional software and don't need FreeCAD. I also notice a surprising lack of Spanish language users; it's one of the main languages in the world but the software and documentation is severely lacking in Spanish translations.

From Europe, I can say there are a lot of Spanish users. In our group of Telegram for FC users with Spanish/Castellano language we have a significant amount of people from that country.

I do not think that facebook statistic is representive. I think that many user that use FOSS do not use (and like) facebook. In german there is the word "Beobachterselektionseffekt". I did not found an english translation. It means "from where i look i do not see all but i think that i see all".

btw, need FreeCAD any kind of social media?

Greetings
