Arvoon_Mah wrote: Fri Oct 29, 2021 6:21 am Hello, I'm currently using the Vertical UI with LinkBranch 17/10/21, it looks really good.
However, I have some icons that don't fit in the Vertical list (on the right) in many WorkBenches. How can I fix this please?
(Like in the v1 YouTube video on VertUI and Arch WB fix)
Hi, glad you liked it.
This is one of the problems that I mentioned to both FreeCAD and FreeCAD Linkstage3 developer(s) - too many toolbars are too long.

Basically, the fix is to reduce the size of the icons, so the tools fit nicely.
This can be set it Edit -> Preferences, General section, General tab, under "Size of toolbar Icons".
1080p screens should be using Medium 24px icons.
1440p screens should be using Large 32px icons.
4k screens should be using Extra Large 48px icons.

If you could upload a screenshot of your problem I could look into it further, maybe the VertUI loading got messed up.

Hey, thanks for your answer.
I've already tried to set the toolbar icon size from "medium" to "small" but it's too "small" that I can't really see those icons.
I use a 1366 x 768 Screen (8y old pc).

Unfortunately, there's not much I can do for a 768 screen, sorry. I suppose the minimum requirement is a 1080p screen. :(
Try setting the Windows Taskbar to autohide, that might win you some vertical space.

Is there a way, please of experimenting with this vertical UI without affecting the conventional set up?
I like the look of it but can't afford messing things up while experimenting.

FreeCAD for me is a tool (which needs to work even if not perfectly) to execute projects not a project in itself ;)

In your video (at 1:31 https://youtu.be/1uMzNe8KwAw?t=91) you are talking about "backup" - is this a "settings backup" which would enable me to go back to FreeCAD as it was?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but better ask than be sorry later
I am using Link branch and Assembly3
you can also download ... and try it here

Nope, it might be a good idea to make one.

Technically - yes. I have tried that and it worked for me, I could switch between stock and VerticalUI simply by backing up and loading whichever config. But I do not want to take any responsibility for lost configs.

If you want to be doubly careful, just make a backup of your User FreeCAD folder. (Make a copy and call it FreeCAD_Backup or whatever). This is a foolproof way to backup your settings.

Perfect!
Thank you for replying
Actually, since asking you,
I have realised that I have Link branch both on Win10(don't really use it) and on Linux (my main working machine)
so I could use Win10 for playing and experimenting ;) leaving Linux safe! (until I am happy and ready to switch)

No worries - I am grown up and don't search for someone to blame when  I mess up

BTW - it all looks very good!!!

LATER EDIT:
just finished installing it on my Win10 machine and... I am speachless ;)
this is proper dog's cojones  - love it to bits
Hope it gets merged in "properly" as soon as possible
big Thank You!!!

my pleasure indeed

one question though, please...
I am used to having tree view on it's own on the right side (large assemblies with long trees)
is it possible to customise this display by swapping sides?
i.e. workbench icons on the left and tree view on the right?
Not because there is anything particularly wrong with "as it is now",
just that this is what I am used to and it is a bit of PITA swivelling my head in reverse to what I am used to ;)

Later edit:
Please disregard my question
found the answer - it is all in preferences
;)
