realthunder and master are both freecad. everyone can use what they want. it doesn't get any better than that

Re: Werner Mayer
Indeed folks can use whatever they please.
But, if they are one and the same, then there should be no need for separate tutorials, descriptions like "you can do that in the RT branch", or the diatribes seen around the web proclaiming FreeCAD is fundamentally broken (referring to master), separate servers for both on Discord, etc.
So, while they both bare the name FreeCAD they are different, at this point a few thousand commits different.

Re: Werner Mayer
that's right. the example of linux shows that it was not possible to create a uniform linux. people are different, it is difficult to create something that everyone likes.

What Qt problem? You mean their new licensing policy?thomas-neemann wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 6:17 pm I think freecad is wonderful as it is. In my opinion there is no time pressure to change anything. my only concern is the qt problem. is there a plan?
Greetings Thomas
I think it's mainly a serious problem for clients who need the static libs as it's not (easily) possible to use the (L)GPL versions but for FreeCAD this shouldn't be an issue as we still can use the shared libraries.
And even if they decide to be more strict in the future there is still the contract with KDE which allows them to re-release the last free version under BSD-3.

Thanks for the link. I have added to my todo list and will have a look at it when reviewing the PR.thomas-neemann wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 7:53 am @wmayer

Re: Werner Mayer
Thanks for the feedback. I am very relieved. in my opinion, freecad is the best open source project ever. Marvelous.
