better symbol / icon for draft?

Post by thomas-neemann »

At the beginning it happened to me that I thought draft is a 2d tool. in the meantime I have heard it from many people that they believe it, sometimes still.

Even in the freecad documentation you can read "The Workbench Draft Workbench allows you to draw simple 2D objects"

could that be changed and maybe use a better symbol e.g. like this?

That page is still on my todo list. And I certainly intend to address the quoted text.

Yorik originally, a very long time ago, came to FreeCAD wanting to create a 2d CAD workbench, so he made Draft WB. It was always from the beginning primarily intended to be for 2d CAD. But since 2d in FreeCAD is 2d sitting on a plane in 3d, all the 2d items are in fact 3d in reality, so over time it made sense to allow tools to utilise the 3rd axis. It has also expanded enormously over the years.

But it is still primarily for 2d CAD.
