Such a tool already exists, in Linkstage3 branch of FC though, not in master one.
So, the code exists, @realthunder introduced it about 1 year ago IIRC.
Give it a try:
- download Linkstage3 FC
- then M,P shortcut

I dont know, I'm always using M,P shortcut to enable/disable the measure mode quicly.
Quick use is what I expect from such tool.
Here is this tool at a glance (first part of GIF):

So the code exists. Can be useful to OP I assume, furthermore if he wants ask for such feature in dev subforum.
BTW Linkstage3 is a branch of FC AFAIK, is it hijacking to talk about it here?

Keep going, I am reading all posts :) If I may go off-topic a bit further - is there a way to draw helper line in sketch mode? In SolidWorks it was possible.

Yes, I admit my GIF is a bit fast, but this GIF comes from another thread, and generaly speaking it's not easy for me to perform longer GIF wich are less than 1Mo.
Usulaly I do all this stuffs from a Raspberry PI4, not so easy, so please be kind

To disable the measurement mode, just M,P again then clic on measure blue icon, it's a flip flop button ;)

BTW I can not access FC ATM, so I can't tell you more that M,P shortcut as an access to measure mode.
BTW I see on your picture you have enabled the "geometry info" button, but enable only "measure" button is enough though.
