Push to cleanup the FreeCAD Mantis bugtracker

Post by Kunda1 »

I'd like to facilitate a group of volunteers (which includes myself) to help prune bugtracker of tickets.

We should look at the following tags:

We need to update tags if necessary. So if a ticket has been #pending and say in the forum thread (that it's associated with mentioned in the ticket) someone has submitted a PR that is still in review, then #pending needs to be changed to #pending-PR. Note: If you need more clarity on this, feel free to notate the ticket or post in this thread.

TL;DR
  • choose ticket from filtered tag list
  • review current condition of ticket (comments, current state, etc.)
  • if status warrants, create a forum thread, etc. (dependant on tag) (Add tucket number to the forum thread title)
  • attempt to confirm in latest build
  • notate ticket (always add About info)
Also, we need to prune PEBKAC ('problem exists between keyboard and chair') tickets. These are tickets that may have fallen through the cracks and have not gotten tagged for some reason. Most likely they should be closed but that's not always the case, they may be reporting a valid bug someway.

Anyone interested?

Edit: Another approach is to choose a workbench and go through all tickets associated with said workbench.

Can you describe what you see as a workflow of an interested person?

Like:
  • choose ticket from filtered tag list
  • review current condition of ticket (comments, current state, etc.)
  • if status warrants, create a forum thread, etc. (dependant on tag)
  • attempt to confirm in latest build
  • add info if possible
  • other steps???

Thanks for spearheading this effort, @Kunda1 -- this will be a big help getting things cleaned up before we do the migration to GitHub issues. Maybe we can use a tag to indicate when an open issue has been reviewed, something like "#ready-for-migration"? I can then strip that tag when running the migration script.

Hmm...

So, were you just telling people to go do whatever they want, in what ever way they see fit?

Was my post, um...wrong, offensive, dumb?

In any case, since it has already begun and I'm not clairvoyant enough to figure out what the process is, I guess I'll just sit it out.

Sorry, I couldn't help.

Your guidelines are perfect. I'll add them + chennes's orientation as well.
