Re: Feature request: cosmetic threads for Hole feature
Is it sensible to have even more options for threaded holes?
- None
- Threaded
- Fake/cosmetic
- Colored
- Compsolid
It doesn't mean that all this has to be implemented, but it may be sensible to have extensions in mind.

Re: Feature request: cosmetic threads for Hole feature
I agree with @jeebee. Just add a cosmetic tube mesh size along the hole and you are done. The only thing you need to add is a check-box to fill in whether you like cosmetic or real. This is how it has been done in Pro/E. And when you do a cut then of course the cosmetic also needs to be cut. In Pro/E this was complicated for once in a while.
The second problem is how to deal with drawings.
The third is how to deal with metric / inch size threads.
The fourth is how to deal with assemblies (bolts, washers and nuts) in combination with threaded holes. IMO it would be very welcome to deal with this.
(But two to four are nice to have)
My two cents.

Re: Feature request: cosmetic threads for Hole feature
I have the feeling this topic diverse a bit in :
So i would say initially don't support compound. make it not to difficult otherwise it won't be added (at least i expect that).
Is it fine that the threaded (part of the )face get a specified color(fine). What about a thread like surface (also fine). It's nice if it scales (don't make it to difficult)
Make a thread like feature is better than don't have that feature.
- Do we want (a form of )cosmetic thread --> Most answers are yes
- Do we accept Part compounds in it? if yes how

* Sketch002 = circle
* Extrude = circular face
* Array = repetition of this face
(binder not cutable)

Re: Feature request: cosmetic threads for Hole feature
Can someone being familiar with Github find out who did the thread for the hole feature? We may ask his advice for what is reasonable to think about.

Re: Feature request: cosmetic threads for Hole feature
I found it.
@davidosterberg, you added the real threads, can you give us some insights what can be done with cosmetic threads
- to be shown in 3D space
- to be shown on a TechDraw page.

Re: Feature request: cosmetic threads for Hole feature
The bitmap shown in the post of @Shalmeneser looks very good. I am sure that such a bitmap is a lot less compute intensive and everyone can see that it is a thread. It lacks the outer diameter circle. And of course, a threaded hole also requires a cosmetic thread on the bolt side...
But I like it. It looks very good.
Please Google or DDG and search for "Solidworks cosmetic thread".

Re: Feature request: cosmetic threads for Hole feature
In solidWorks, it seems to be just an image inside the hole.
My binder last solution is not good because :
* Further functions will not be able to cut the cosmetic thread
* binder is still selectable (selectable=false doesn't work ?)
We need something :
* visible and looking good
* light
* cutable
* non selectable
* following the hole modifications

Re: Feature request: cosmetic threads for Hole feature
It would probably be good to consult what industry uses and standards like ANSI, etc. recommend.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan: Spock: "...His pattern indicates two-dimensional thinking."
Re: Feature request: cosmetic threads for Hole feature
As far as i know there is no industry standard about cosmetic threads.
- Creo don't know it((cosmetic )thread can be added as a single feature but also part of the hole feature and is basically a tube that intersect with the main part and have some extra properties). - NX i don't know my head says an image but i'm not sure
- Solid works uses a image
The only standard there is, is how it represented on drawing and i'm not if FC is able get that type on info out of the modeling...
Edit: add the bold text
