Any civil engineers out there?

Post by thickness_pointer »

Hello everyone! Just joined the forum and am playing around with the software.

I am a civil engineer in the United States who has used AutoCAD products for their entire career but outside of work only uses open-source software. I was curious if anyone out there has found creative ways to use this software in a civil engineering workflow? I know it's mostly a parametric CAD program but it seems to have a lot of extensibility. I would be so happy even if there were a couple of things in my day-to-day that I could take out of my Civil3D workflow.

Well in any case I was mostly curious if there were others out there trying to escape Autodesk Civil3D

Thanks :D

There's some pretty useful re-bar tools in Arch WB as well.

in my opinion, freecad is mainly used in architecture and timber construction

This looks promising John, the screenshots look like it's the kind of tool set I was hoping for. I guess I'll see how it goes.

lalberts, osarch.org is the inspiration I was looking for 👍
