Grandiose AR thought

Post by Photurnal »

G'day, as an elder noob reembarking upon CAD/CAM design skills I tend to think or expect too much. Having lived through the analogue/digital emergence I try to coordinate the physical and virtual realities we now share. For the last decade or more I have developed an approach that may better integrate these realities.

But the thought that occurred was "can FreeCAD develop a simulated (AR) 'workshop' workbench that models traditional physical fabrication tools?" Not a sophisticated industrial workshop but a simple basic garage/shed workshop. Imagine a woodwork shop with bench, cutting, drilling, shaping and finishing tools that modify simulated wood stock. Further imagine that this simulation is accurate enough to train youngsters and oldsters both in the techniques required and their expectations. As I said, grandiose, but consider an AR (Augmented Reality) training module that translates said virtual training into physical reality. (Consider this like an AR instructable that connects the physical and virtual worlds.)

Just a thought. BTW I should introduce myself a little, 60+, born England emigrated to Australia, Irish/Flemish ancestry, cynical socialist with way too much time thinking about thought. As mentioned I am developing a way to better integrate the physical and digital realities of living, using basic human behavior, psychology, technology and information. Although somewhat anachronistic I think that replicating a digital form of traditional communities, incentivizing behavior and offering substantial individual control can simplify future social and societal development.
Anyway, thank you. I am interested in your thoughts about the "workshop" idea.

I am already trying to create some kind of doweling jig at Woodworking workbench. It is not so easy peasy and not everything work as I want but things starting from dreaming ;-)

I have already done the doweling jig tool. I am not sure if I should add it. I would like to add more features and make general improvements to the whole Woodworking workbench. I guess less often but bigger updates are better for user, gives better stability.
