That's true... Even if you like much all the BIM idea, you must recognize that it's much more complex to handle than traditional 2D drafting. And at the end, since we still much produce 2D drawings and that's about all that matters, the advantages of using a more advanced method are not so obvious to many people.

My own opinion is that they failed with something with all that BIM stuff, they turned it much more into a commercial argument (let's forget autocad, it's bad for you, it's has-been! now you need BIM) than into a technique... If you look at engineering-oriented software, they have been much more practical, it's just the same software as before that simply evolved (gained parametric behaviour, dependency, etc, people still call it CAD, no need to put some fancy new name, etc), they didn't tell you "you must change all the way you work, you must enter 21th century bla bla bla", rather they extended the available tools...

But fortunately we have a chance to rectify all that here ;) there is no more that "advanced vs generic" talk... freecad is both advanced and generic!
