vejmarie,

Apparently there's a new FreeCAD user who installed your snap package from the Ubuntu Software Centre and reported bugs.

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17203
and viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17204

In my opinion this is bad. Not only is this package based on a development version, it is based on a separate branch (occt7). This version is now months old. In the Help forum we actively advise against using the 0.17 development version to newcomers because it is simply not ready for wide use yet.

I haven't migrated to 16.04 yet on my main PC so I have no idea how the package description looks like in the Software Centre. But if there is no clear indication that it is a development version, it should definitely be removed from the Software Centre.

Thanks.

Hi @vejmarie.

As the FreeCAD 0.17 release happened. Would you by any chance be interested in updating the snap package to FreeCAD 0.17?

I have registered a name dispute for ownership of the FreeCAD snap.

It looks like the name dispute has been resolved, but I never got notified; someone filed a bug against the Ubuntu freecad package, but states they're using "FreeCAD 17 Beta" which is the name of the snap, so I checked my account on snapcraft.io and it says I own the 'freecad' name but have not pushed a snap for it. So, if I now own the name we need to get it moved to the FreeCAD Maintainers team on Launchpad.

Another -1 for snaps for me.

Sorry, I didn't feel motivated to do this since I had already tried contacting him on Twitter and Gitter but got no response with several attempts.
