Engraving feature

Post by demackison »

Is there an easy way, in FreeCAD, to transfer an image or text onto an object for engraving or creation of a simple relief?

Best case, it should work on a beveled surface.

Something like this:

Note: I am *not* trying to copy somebody. This was simply the first example I could find of a central image that was not on a perfectly flat face.

There are many ways, and depending on what you actually want to achieve, it can be from easy to impossible.
Check out microelly's NURBS editor, he seems to be doing something especially advanced in this regard.

Recently I made a barrel with text on the rounded surface. I can not upload the file because it is too large but here a picture of it. Also a figure ( e.g. a logo) can be added in this way. Text can be made in Freecad but figures can best be made in Inkscape. On Youtube are some short tutorials made by 61quick about this subject. I advice to study them first and if it is still a problem ask again. It is also useful to look in the list of macro's or there is something that comply to your wishes. Macro Circular text can sometimes be helpful, but not in the situation you described above.

Produce your g-code with FreeCAD and wrap it with this http://www.scorchworks.com/Gcoderipper/gcoderipper.html

Never tried it myself, but looks interesting. Trying it soon when i get my 6040cnc running.
