Availability of icons

Post by chrisb »

I want to work on the documentation of the Path Workbench and since I am new to this wiki I have some questions concerning the icons. I hope these questions are not too anoying for old wiki lions but I prefer to annoy people temporarily here than durable in the wiki.

The Situation
The current wiki shows Icons with names like "Path_Project.png", "Path_EditToolsTable.png". These are icons from the current stable 0.16.
When I search in the Special Files section the uploaded files for "Path" I find only two of (agryson's) Path icons and 4 more from yorik's book, while there should be many more.

However, I can find the used Icons in the Artworks gallery: https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Artwork ... es.5Cicons

So here are my questions:
  • Are all current FreeCAD icons uploaded to the wiki?
  • If yes, how can I find them; if no, should I upload them myself?
  • Is there a naming convention? Currently all Path cons have the prefix "Path" so I expect no clash.
  • What is the preferred file format, png or svg?
  • Can we distuingish between 0.16 icons and 0.17 icons?
Thanks for listening
Chris

Hi,

Basically, no. There is still a lot of disparity between the wiki and the freecad interface. agryson uploaded most of his work (i think) as svg to the Artwork page, but there are still several svg rendering problems in the mediawiki software (internally it converts everything to png), so for the time being we still use png versions almost everywhere on the wiki. The command pages (Part_Extrude, etc) will automatically look for a png file with the same name (Part_Extrude.png).

So we need to convert the new svg files to png manually and upload them to the wiki. Since agryson made a very good work as to not modify too much the icons so they are still recognizable, no matter the old one or the new one, I think we can start progressively changing the icons on the wiki, people using 0.16 will see a difference, but they should still understand.

If yes, how can I fond them;
You can search here:

For the icons I've uploaded (quite a while ago), the name of the icon as it appeared in the source code was the name I used when uploading to the wiki...

That is where I have looked and where I can find only two icons from the Path WB. Could you please go to that very ListFiles section and perform a search for "Path"? I hope you will find more, because without searching it is hardly possible to find the icons within acceptable time.

Will do but my internet connection is really slow now so I'll try in the morning (maybe 10 hours from now).

I also only see two Path WB icons, so most are not uploaded yet. To check I just uploaded Path-Array.svg
from src>Mod>Path>Gui>Resources>Icons
Image
in the 0.17 source code .zip file downloaded from
https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/releases
and there were no duplicates listed.

But where do all the Path icons in the current wiki docs come from: https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Path_Workbench. They all start with "Path" :o :?:

Now I see the problem. The icons shown n the Path WB wiki page don't appear in the search results when doing a search for files with the name Path. Maybe there is a wildcard character we need to include in the search box after the word Path, but I don't know what that character might be. I tried using an asterisk (*) with no success.

I had searched with both, capital, and lower case P, but not without.

Wow, that is really strange behavior. It looks like it's a bug. https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Topic:Pwjch65m0lbr7n8e
