FreeCAD and KiCAD are officially binded toghether! :)

Post by easyw-fc »

I'm happy to announce that finally, after a lot of work for the 3D KiCAD library (which has now more than 4500 electronics parametric parts all generated by FreeCAD, mainly through scripts with CadQuery WB), KiCAD is suggesting officially to download, install and use FreeCAD to create or modify any 3D model for the use within the KiCAD EDA suite.

I'm attaching here the installer dialog for the developer release of KiCAD (which is the soon next stable release):

Special thanks to all the KiCAD librarians and all FreeCAD devs, maintainers, packagers and people at the forums for making this possible.
Many thanks also to all my friends that helped me here and at KiCad forum to improve the 'STEP' support in FreeCAD and the mechanical interchange.

I think this is a great achievement for FOSS and a big 'STEP' for ECAD/MCAD collaboration! :D

Excellent!

We could also do something like that somewhere, suggest "friends" software that work well with FreeCAD, like KiCAD, LibreCAD, slicer...

Good idea. Often seen here as well: inkscape.
