Re: FreeCAD presentation topics and development

Ohio Linux Fest has opened their call for proposals. I submitted a talk that will focus on FreeCAD.

Title:

Engineering, Open Sourced.

Abstract:
Free and open source software has dominated the technology sector across many domains, yet traditional engineering disciplines have proven a difficult environment in which open source has struggled to thrive. This is slowly changing as traditional engineering software grows increasingly expensive and new engineering technologies are quickly adopted in the open source world. This presentation will explore the technical and social value for adopting open source technology in traditional engineering workflows, the immediate challenges to adoption, and the importance of engineering professionals’ active participation in the development of free and open source engineering applications. Special attention will be given to the FreeCAD project, its uniqueness as an open source engineering tool, how it is rapidly evolving, and how it may become a powerful alternative for a world dominated entirely by expensive proprietary software.

Hoping they'll accept. I may not know until the end of July.

Sounds great. Haven’t watched your videos but here is research on education styles and content in STEM classes. Hopefully it maybe helpful.

My presentation went off well last Friday. A few issues in the demonstration portion, but otherwise, I'm reasonably happy.

I'm a little dismayed to realize after the fact how quickly I was speaking. And the audio isn't the best. My apologies. Still, this is representative of what I would present should I be able to present at Ohio LinuxFest, though I'm certain I'd change a number of things.

Anyway, direct link to the slides:

It would appear I have been accepted to present at the Ohio Linux Fest in October, this year in Columbus, Ohio.

I'm pretty excited! My topic will focus on open source and engineering in a broader scope, but, of course, FreeCAD is going to get some significant exposure. :)

Congratulations! Be sure to record it and post a link so that those of us who don't attend can still watch your presentation.

Sweet! This type of advocacy is very high level. Thank you for educating folks about this world. Hopefully there will be some more cool improvements to the civil engineering wb by then 😉

Congratulations.
I watched your videos and have more confident about involving in FreeCAD project. I had regret about whether I will be accepted by industries. My intention is telling them they can have Git version control on product drawings and test-driven development, in the near future with FreeCAD.
Maybe it is a dream from not-known. I will check and try. Thank you, Guys. I want to be part of you.
