0.17 & Mac Mojave total crash

Post by pipo »

Hi,

I have installed mojave, the lastes MAC OS release, last week on my mac book pro from mid 2014.
At first i had experienced the freezing by launching freecad as it it described here in the forum and also in youtube.
It's not very nice, .... but well..... okay.

But now i have experienced a total crash of my mac when i use the alignment feature (Black Screen). This total crash is reproducible, until now it always came back when i try to use the alignment feature.

So now i'm really desperate and frustrated because i can not finish my work and start the 3d printing. Also i don't know were this problem comes from.

Has someone experienced some same behavior?

I'm happy for any help!!!!

In Regards

Philipp

I'm afraid it will not help, but you should try the latest 0.18 release.
If that doesn't help I would offer that you upload your model, I apply the feature (you will have to explain what you mean with "alignment feature") and the you try to continue your work with the updated model.

For the freezing on MacOS Mojave I have found a hack that seems to work for others as well: start freecad inside terminal.

To do so open a new terminal window (cmd-space, type terminal, enter). then type:

/Applications/FreeCAD.app/Contents/MacOS/FreeCAD

Thanks for reporting. Can anyone else using MacOS Mojave confirm this? I would like to add it to the known issues list.

Hi,

@chrisb: first thanks for your offer to help and do the "alignment work" for me. Unfortunately it would be a lot of work to do. Therefore i will try the versiom 0.18 first.

With alignment feature or function I mean the split screen what is used to shoos points on two objects to align the objects. You can find this feature under edit directly below placement.
I believe that feecad has issues under Mohave to create this split screen and create a system crash.

Yes it would be really great if someone can confirm this! Maybe i have an other issue here what i could solve myself.

Hi Philipp
to align your objects you may consider to install manipulator WB and use the Aligner tool.

You are using the additional Animation workbench, which I don't use, so the following is a bit guesswork:
- Animation workbench seems to need matplotlib, which you have to install separately.
- brew install matplotlib should install the library.

If you don't need this workbench, uninstall it.

It also happens to me... BTW, if starting it up from Terminal it works like a charm.
