From command line:

Code: Select all

$ gmsh --version
3.0.6
or just start gmsh and go Help->About

OK, that's funny :D
I dont's have a ubuntu virtual machine to test it, so please be careful. I hope that gmsh comes in package named gmsh :D

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install --reinstall gmsh
If that doesn't help, you can go and nuke it from the orbit:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge gmsh && sudo apt-get install gmsh
Edit: What happens if you try to start gmsh from the command line?

I found a later version in the Calculix directory and this gives the same error when run from command line:

Error : Unknown string option 'Solver.Extension0'
Error : Unknown string option 'Solver.Extension1'
Error : Unknown string option 'Solver.Extension2'
Error : Unknown string option 'Solver.Extension3'
Error : Unknown string option 'Solver.Extension4'
Error : Unknown string option 'Solver.Extension5'
Error : Unknown string option 'Solver.Extension6'
Error : Unknown string option 'Solver.Extension7'
Error : Unknown string option 'Solver.Extension8'
Error : Unknown string option 'Solver.Extension9'

Maybe some config file... try to move somewhere file ~/.gmshrc
Also there might be some more info in ~/.gmsh-errors

Edit: in ~/.gmsh there is a section with something that is likely linked to your problem:

Code: Select all

Solver.Extension0 = ".pro";
Solver.Extension1 = "";
Solver.Extension2 = "";
Solver.Extension3 = "";
Solver.Extension4 = "";
Solver.Extension5 = "";
Solver.Extension6 = "";
Solver.Extension7 = "";
Solver.Extension8 = "";
Solver.Extension9 = "";

Wonderful that worked for FreeCAD - thanks @PrzemoF, but I still have the same error on the command line in the CCX directory. Anyway, meshes come out ok, so no practical impact. I will follow up on your suggestion.
