Potentially Corrupted Save (All Parts Unnamed)

Post by Woodside »

Version 0.17
Revision 13541

I've been recently learning how to use FreeCAD. In the middle of editing a project I've been working on for a couple days, I started getting C++ exceptions and also having the inability to make changes. I was also getting a prompt saying something about closing an open dialogue box. I decided to reboot FreeCAD, but now I'm met with all of the sketches being empty, the tree structure being collapsed, and everything being "unnamed".

I only have 1 backup, and it is also suffering from this.

For the love of goodness, please tell me something can be recovered from this.

please see point 1 and 3 of:

https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/releases

That said, this looks really strange, sadly it is probably very hard to reproduce and hence to find the cause and fix. It might already be solved in the 0.18.x releases.

I didn't figure updating would fix a corrupt file, haha. I am updating it, anyhow.

In any case, I have accepted my fate and started over the project. It's going a lot faster now that I know how to use the program.

can you provide your detailed version info? It might be valuable if this happens to someone else in future.

"Open the Help --> About FreeCAD menu then click on the "Copy to clipboard" button, and paste its content in the text input area. This will provide us valuable information on your exact version and revision number, your operating system as well as FreeCAD's internal libraries. (Mac users: the About FreeCAD menu is under the FreeCAD menu.)
Please do not attach a screen capture instead of posting the Help > About FreeCAD information from the clipboard."
