22468 users according what is see ... but close enough...

When i filter on number of user posts... only 128 pages * 25 posts + 1 post = 3201 posts have more than 5 user posts (as of while typing).
How much have more than 5 user post and were active last year? it isn't much better i think

You forget that we migrated the whole user database when we parted ways with Sourceforge; back then, the user database was global to the whole of Sourceforge. There may be 8-10,000 user accounts in there that go back to the SF era, users who most probably never posted or visited the forum. A whole lot of banned spammers in there I'd wager. ;)

Spreading the word is a dilution of efforts, if it's all the same contributors who are active here who have to do it. I created a Mastodon account on the Fosstodon instance with the goal of "spreading the word", but I barely post anymore. I just don't have the time.

How about the blog posts that were supposed to be a regular feature? ;)

But links, barely any original content. And the activity is not big either. It was the same thing with the Google+ FreeCAD community: it had 3,500 subscribers and not 0.01% were active. Barely 3-4 posts a month.

There is a discussion about FreeCAD @ Hackaday.com
Unfortunately it seems there is still not a general positive feeling about FreeCAD...

As least part of the negative comments suggest misunderstanding of parametric modelling ("small change breaks my model"). Complaining about "FreeCAD being impenetrable even with previous experience" suggest limited previous experience :D . I did AutoCAD-->Bentley Microstation migration and it caused brain melt. I expect the same when migrating from anything to FreeCAD, just because it's different.

P.S. FreeCAD can do better in terms of UI consistency - I'm sure about it. But it takes a lot of work.

Well,, these commenters on hackaday are not to be taken seriously. They just throw around words and try to be opposite to something.
Comparing Altium with Eagle and Kicad is one of the most idiotic comparisions possible, same as comparing Solidworks with FreeCAD ..

If they don´t like free Software but can afford tools costing as much as midrange cars.. they just should go their forums an shut up comparing apples to the moon.
YES FreeCAD is much worse than Solidworks, Creo and all these other high price commercial Systems .. but it´s , and it seems to be forgotten by many, damned FREE to use and if someone shows me another free and opensource CAD system that is proven to be BETTER ... i delete it...

I took a look and noticed the most negative comment (the one that claims FC is 'pre-alpha' and 'a throwaway prototype') also considers Blender to be 'beta' software. So obviously not what I would call legitimate feed back.

Gotta love those armchair developers. :)

I think this is cool... Indeed the forum can be a daunting place for newcomers. But also obviously it's hard to have "hard-core" freecad discussion happening out of it, as all the knowledgeable people are basically here. I guess these other forums are there for other purpose, like "gently" introducing FreeCAD to new people, and bringing hem here if they stick to it, even being pre-alpha crap :)

Hello,

I'm not sure if I've already posted it here, but I created a FreeCAD group in grabcad.com platform:

That's actually a useful, albeit brief review. It's not overly critical, but it's honest. And they think it can compete with the 'heavy hitters' in some areas
