Good idea. As technical drawings seemed to be important, I would even recommend 0.19. Can we offer him a small fee or would that falsify the result?

This was an academic thesis. Now he moved to professional world, probably.
Also, if you want to repeat the research, you must run tests with the last version of the other programs.
The good thing: this is a methodological comparison and evaluation, in an institution, with experts as supervisors. It is research. And it gives a good evaluation to FreeCAD. It is not a subjective statement from a anonymous user (troll) that we frequently read in the forum.

I think one needs to keep in mind that this is a masters level thesis. Also, it is the evalution of one person and not a community of student users. Never the less, it is good feedback.

"because FreeCAD is robust and awesome."

Even though he makes all the obvious toponaming fails before..

It lets FreeCAD look good in the comparision anyway..

He has some more FreeCAD Videos on his channel.

Yes, he uses Link To External Geometry several times, which he refers to as "import an edge" into the Sketch.

I'll have to mention that I haven't used Solidworks, but I did notice that he consistently uses keyboard shortcuts when Sketching. At 20:30 he offers this summariy:
So that I am just continually impressed that I have been able to model, and edit the model, in FreeCAD I'd say arguably as easy as it is in SolidWorks. Of course, SolidWorks has a bit of user friendliness, and it's known for its user friendliness, but FreeCAD with its hotkeys has really made the sketching process faster and easier and SolidWorks doesn't have hotkeys that are comparable. I think that's one thing that FreeCAD really has on Solidworks.
Sweet!

Hello all,

My nickname is Pete, I am an Engineer from Spain and I love using FreeCAD.

I did two designs for a company a couple of years ago (as it was clear to me the company was not going to pay a CAD software licence for me), and as far as I read in these forums I am not the only one who uses it, or has used it, professionally. My designs were done with V 0.16 and though I have not used 0.17 and 0.18 , I am willing to.

I have the strong feeling there is an inferiority complex in this forum. FreeCAD 0.16 handled Boolean operations better than other high end CAD software, just to mention something I experimented.

Thank you so much to all who make this project become an amazing tool,
Pete
