Sketch Freecad 0.19 some not editable but are visible

Post by soaring »

Hello, all

after forum search i cannot figure out what happens.

I have bodies, use only "part design" workbench and did some boolean operations.

in the graph dependancy, some sketch are visible (at the begining), there is no error message when i double click on it for edit, but nothing is displayed in the screen, sketches seems empty but no message about it.

i checked visibilities in the graph, try to set all visible, take care about what is activated or not (body, etc...) but nothing. I guess it's related to boolean operations but dont know.

th new thing i used and is different from usual is starting from a reference plan from another body with the "create a new datum plan".

some sketches works fine for edit, other dont.

can you switch on the light in my mind ? ;-) i will appreciate ! :-)

i attach my file and a screenshot to see wich sketches a talking about

My freecad version is :

OS: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS (KDE/plasma)

I tried with another file of mine and while the boolean body is inside the other body it can not be made visible separately and so can not be edited. I had to drag it outside to be able to edit it. This does not brake the original body. But it is weird visibility behavior.
Why are you making all that parts as a separate bodies and then boolean them all togerher? Part design does that automatically for you. You can modify attachment of sketches and additive/substractive primitives to put everything in place.

If you want to edit the sketch you have to change in the View tab of Boolean001 the value of Display from Result to Tools.

Some remarks on your sketching:
You should always prefer geometric constraints over dimensions; and you almost never need dimensions of 0. In your case you should
- use point-on-object constraint to fix the upper or lower point on the Y-axis,
- save another dimension (6mm) by using a symmetry constraint
- save the 3.25mm constraint by using symmetry again
- Same in the other direction: use a symmetry constraint to level the upper points left and right. This saves you another dimension (8mm).

The number of dimensional constraints can thus be reduced from 8 to 3.
