[SOLVED] Request for IfcProject icon?

Post by Moult »

In the arch workbench, there is a new type of object called an IfcProject or IfcProjectLibrary. It allows you to define a "project" for the construction / architecture industry, and is part of the IFC OpenBIM industry standard. A project can contain a building site, which can then contain sub-sites, and sites can contain buildings (or facilities, which is the new proposal) and so on. A project library can contain types of objects which can be reused across projects, or groups of properties which are project requirements. A project can also contain a project library.

So basically, it's the top most element.

As an example below in the arch workbench, here is what a site, building, and building storey (i.e. floor of a building) icon looks like right now:

I'm open to artistic interpretation! However I checked out the noun project and here are 5 results that communicate "project" to me in a construction context:

Based on your first post, I understand the strongest feature of this ifcproject is to be a container.
So. What about a box?

Quick favor, I noticed in the previous SVG you most kindly created in a previous thread, that the SVG metadata needed to be updated as well. Here is the current metadata:

Code: Select all

Thanks bitacovir! Is it possible to have some symbology that suggests arch / engineering / construction project as well as the box? If you think that it will simply clutter too much, that's OK too.

I forgot to mention that apart from the yellow icon, there also needs to be a white icon to be used in the model tree, like in the screenshot below:

Do you mind creating that model tree icon too?

I can do the white icon. But first, you must choose... It is hard to think in a symbol with many meanings. And the real problem is the small icons, where the resolution of details is minimum.

I was thinking of a "top container" with strong Architectural/Engineering symbolism. I can only think of the basilica.

Other ideas that I considered.
A box with a ruler. Not too good for small icons.

Only the ruler. Mmmm maybe...

I vote for the ruler or the brunelleschi dome :) Not enough arch symbols around here!
The ruler has the advantage that it conveys well the idea that the project (will) define a coordinates system.

In the beginning, it was the white table. And the Architect put the T ruler on position, draw a line and he saw it was good.
