It's unfortunately probably too late, the soft freeze begins Feb 12th. Gonna try to focus on gmsh and openfoam.

I'd really be interested in compiling ccx for debian buster. Have done this years ago on Jessie, but can't remember how I did that. It should be possible to adapt the ubuntu script for Buster ?!?

It might "just work". Are there any iso images of debian buster? I found only Stretch 9.7 so far.

Edit: I think I got something...

The script doesn't work on ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS due to some linking problems. If someone needs it please post here - there is a manual workaround.

I have just used the script to install ccx. Thanks that is just a few tweeks but saves tonnes of messing around.

It's a shame these old and stable libs are not in Fedora distro packages.

What is the score on gmsh ? Fedora gives me 3.0.6 with is at least two years old, not gmsh 4. This is an active project and it seems there has been a lot of changes ( improvements ).

Is v3 good enough or is it worth building ( yetanother ) from source.

Can you share or describe the tweaks please?

I don't know what's with gmesh, but on my fedora 30:

Code: Select all

$ rpm -qi gmsh
Name        : gmsh
Version     : 4.1.5
Release     : 2.fc30
Architecture: x86_64

I don't have anything to share , I was commenting on your script which fixes a couple of things by applying patches etc. This would be quite complicated to describe and sort out by hand. Your script saves a lot of fiddling around.

I'm still on Fed29. I was wondering whether F30 had the newer version. Looks like a good time to update. thanks for the info.

Good to find someone else using FreeCAD on Fedora, what graphics driver are you using. I seem to have a lot of problems with nouveau Nvidia driver.
