How to save viewable clipped area only
Hi,
I am new to FreeCad.
I have a simple task to do: I have an existing STP design of part that I want to share with third party but relevant section only. I thought I can do as follows:
(1) Load STP
(2) Using View Clipping plane
(3) Save
I assumed I would save the clipped area only but its still the complete object.
In the model view, there is only a single object. So I cant delete parts of the model.
I need a recipe how to really cut off the non-visble parts of the object.
Easy to do?
So let me know how

Hi Paulchen, Welcome on the forum
Basically you can place a Part Plane where you want the cut to be done, then use Part SliceApart to get separated objects from the cut. You'll then be able to export only one of the "sub objects".

Here is a short video on this process openBrain described:

You can use any geometric object like a cube or a cylinder or something else and make a boolean common.

Dear all,
Very helpful comments and advises. Many thanks for that. SliceApart did not work as this was not offered in my menu of FreeCAD. Couldnt find out how to make it show up in the menu. I created part primitives instead and used boolean operations. Did work fine very well. Thanks to chrisb for this hint.
Kind regards

Good to see you worked it out.
For the sake of completeness: SliceApart is not available in 0.18. You can, however, use slice+part->Compound->ExplodeCompound.

Then you are right for sure. I don't have the final 0.18 release because it turned out to be too unstable on the Mac.
