[SOLVED] Object too big for drawings and dimensions too small to read

Post by flexi »

Hello,

I am really new to FreeCad and currently working on a room with a size of 5500x2500x2300mm.

Now I have two problems:

Problem 1:
If I add a dimension, I can't see the value because it's too small.
I can set the arrow size to 20mm and the font size to 100mm to see the values but I am sure there is a easier way to do it?
(Set display mode to 3D also helps but then, I don't see the arrows without setting the arrow size manually)

Problem 2:
If I now add a drawing (DIN A4) and add the body (5500x2500x2300mm) to it, I see nothing. Because the body is too big for the drawing.

If I set the scale of the view to 0,01 I see "something" in the corner...

Is there any trick to work with bodies with these sizes?

Thank you!!

Please attach your full FreeCAD info as described in the IMPORTANT forum rules linked above and tell us what screen resolution you have.

Hi flexi, and welcome! I see you posted a duplicate of this post in the German forum. Because both the English and German language forums are quite active, so you don't need to do that.

As chrisb wrote, post your file and your FreeCAD info if you want better answers. I can offer a little help now though.

Change to the Draft WB or Arch WB and from the pull-down menu choose Edit > Preferences > Draft (icon in left pane) > Texts and Dimensions (tab in right pane) and change the settings to your liking. You might have to quite FreeCAD and re-start it for the changed Preferences to take effect. But because you want to make a 2D drawing of your 3D model in TechDraw, using Draft WB > Dimensions is probably the wrong approach. So, here is where having the model and your proper FreeCAD info will help us get you going in the right direction without a bunch of false starts.

Hello
Pb1 : You can set the size of arrows and texte in "Preferance ,
but in your case , your work is big (5500 x 2500) and you have to zoom minus/minus , the texte zoom in the same time

Pb2 : when you "send the drawing in the sheet A4 , you have to modif the scale to adjuste the drawing with the size of the sheeet of paper instead of you have to borrow the screen of the stadium of you contry

The images in the op are from the Drawing module, not TechDraw.

It is ultimately the same fix - change the drawing/view scale to, say, 0.02 (1:50)

Do not use the Drawing Workbench because it's obsolete. Use the TechDraw Workbench, which is its successor.

Hi,

I switchted to TechDraw and both problems got solved.
I can scale down to 0,4 / 0,3 and the body is fully visible and the size of the dimensions are fine in TechDraw too.

Thank you!!
