I do not use it. Would be good to have an useful example file which shows what this is useful for.

No I only fixed bugs, moved code around and did code formatting, the initial git commit 1c927818 for gmsh mesh object click on parent commits for further implementation of object and command

I think it is too difficult to make boundary layer working robust (working for different kind of meshing algorithm), how about just remove this feature?

It is only useful in CFD case, where near wall velocity gradient is very big, if there is turbulent flow, there is a requirement of the first layer thickness.
Ubuntu 18.04 LTS 64bit, python3, always work with latest FreeCAD daily build

To be honest, I do not like this idea. How about posting two examples, one where it works and one where it fails?
