How do I load a backup file e.g. *.FCStd4

If the system would just accept the backup file extension then everyone would be happy.
Honestly i wouldn't turn backup feature to on because it creates to much clutter in my working directory. I was thinking about opening a thread for discussion about something like backup directory for a while because of that...

About opening .fcstd extension with attached number... probably this would be mime type related task and maybe not that straightforward task?

You're asking the wrong person now. I don't know anything about those things. I've seen the word *mime* used before, but I sure don't know what it means. Sorry.
