Documenting our binary distributions

Post by kkremitzki »

I've been quite interested in SourceHut lately, and I was looking at the documentation for their package mirrors here:

https://man.sr.ht/packages.md

It would be nice to have a version of this page for all of our binary distributions.

I'm not sure what this is supposed to be. Is it a "general" tool for documentation, like a replacement for the current wiki, that is git-based?

Or do you intend to document the packaging of different distributions. In this case, I opened the Packaging page to collect some information about Debian that you wrote some time ago.

No, I was just mentioning that SourceHut is neat as an aside. The main thing is the simple listing of their packages. So something like your Packaging page, but summarizing each packaging source in a list rather than doing any grouping by platform.

So for example here would be my entries:

Debian Package
Maintainer: Kurt Kremitzki <kurt@kwk.systems> (email not necessary but some form of contact info should be included)
Homepage: https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/freecad
Source: https://salsa.debian.org/science-team/freecad
Contributing: (no dedicated wiki page here yet, but would pull in info from e.g. https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Git_buildpackage)

Ubuntu Package
...

FreeCAD Stable PPA
...

FreeCAD Daily PPA
...

other entries:
Appimage
Conda
Chocolatey?
Homebrew
Fedora
Arch Linux
Windows
Mac OS
etc
