Looking at your image i guess not yet fully resolved but likely step in the right direction. For example just today i made a new sketch and this was the result:
Before the result was better in my opinion. What do you think? And as for the Sketcher workbench icon:
I am not sure if i am totally satisfied with such results. If your new attempt won't cut it you will likely need to bend the guidelines a bit.
Sketcher icons (finally) aligned

I disagree, we're already bending them to some degree regarding the outline color. The guidelines, based on Tango best practices that have been perfectly sufficient in other projects for years are not necessarily the real problem.triplus wrote:bend the guidelines a bit.
Here are other things we can try before throwing the baby out with the bathwater:
- Reduce Icon complexity (the icon could be reduced to a simpler shape, like the part workbench which has a single element, not 5 like the Sketcher one)
- Control the background color (Techdraw does this by using a white page background - this allows control of background and thus the use of thinner lines)
Re: Sketcher icons (finally) aligned
Well i don't care all that much in what phase and how. By following the guidelines or not.
The end result should in my opinion work better. Here we do agree?

Of course, provided we can get to the end result without you speaking to everybody as if you're their employer or thesis supervisor.triplus wrote:Well i don't care all that much in what phase and how. By following the guidelines or not.

We work together on this, I'd prefer if we spoke to each other as equals rather than giving orders all the time.
Re: Sketcher icons (finally) aligned
Well i could probably respond in different ways to such claims. But OK i will take the bait. And what is the problem if i would do that? Do you feel that isn't needed? Or do you feel somebody else should do that just not me? Or you would like to do it? Are you ready for it yet? If you want it it's yours at least as far as i am concerned.Of course, provided we can get to the end result without you speaking to everybody as if you're their employer or thesis supervisor.

I'm just saying that it makes for un unpleasant working environment.triplus wrote:And what is the problem if i would do that?
In English we have a saying: "You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar".
Basically, tone and attitude makes a big difference to working effectively together.

Thanks Alex!
Sorry to only get back now, there's been so much activity on the forum that I've fallen behind on my followed topics. I can't keep up!
It's based on the Draft tree icon, but little triangles were added by Yorik, I'm guessing it was to highlight the parametric nature of sketches? I would vote to remove them, but maybe wait for @yorik opinion?
I have another question: is there a reason the Sketcher icon has a thicker outline than the Draft icon?

Agreed, the Sketcher icon family with the red square and circle look a little busy.agryson wrote:Reduce Icon complexity (the icon could be reduced to a simpler shape

Re: Sketcher icons (finally) aligned
Actually, I had copied the draft icon over because it worked well but once I added the triangles I found that the icon appeared too dark at smaller sizes (didn't even look red) due to anti-aliasing issues, so I thickened the lines. I'm fairly certain that if we remove the little triangles that we could safely reduce the thickness again.NormandC wrote:I have another question: is there a reason the Sketcher icon has a thicker outline than the Draft icon?

Re: Sketcher icons (finally) aligned
Perhaps this comparison helps to understand which are more readable
RenatoRe: Sketcher icons (finally) aligned
@agryson
I think removing the triangles and thinning the outlines to the same width as the Draft object icon would be perfect.
Thanks for posting the comparison, renatorivo. The more I use 0.17 with the new icons, the more I think it's a great improvement, and it shows most with the Sketcher tools (maybe because with PDN it's the workbench I use the most).
