Collaborative Assembly tutorial idea

Post by EldeTabernas »

Hi everyone! I started a project not much long ago that consisted on modelling a two stroke engine from an old Mobylette that I had on my basement and recorded myself modelling it on FreeCAD to both practice and encourage people to design complex models on FreeCAD.

Now I have already modelled all the main parts of the engine and I'm working on the videos (here it is the first, a bit rough and not very exactly as the real one but I tried my best without spending too much time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At4TKec6cEU)

When I'll upload all the design videos I'd like to upload one about the assembly of the engine so here I'm asking for help, as I don't have the skill to use the assembly workbench, so here are the files if you want to help. Also animating it would be pretty awesome. I don't want you to give me the assembled model, I want you to record yourself assembling the model(and why not updload it yourselves) as there aren't much documentation about assembling yet so I think this would be a great way to improve the documentation.

So here it is the zip file with all the parts: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1wRAHs ... 9d27QVLjM9

I'm hopping that this motivate some of you to improve the documentation.

PS: I know that the holes of the object "culata" and "cilindro final" aren't aligned, my bad, but changing it made all crash so I let it that way :?

Maybe you know this already but there are several assembly workbenches currently. There is A2plus, Assembly3, and Assembly4. Each of them works in a particular way. A2plus is an older workbench, that uses a traditional one file per part workflow, Assembly3 and Assembly4 both make use of the App Link object, but the first one uses a constraint solver, and the second one uses the expression engine as solver.

Hello,
I made an assembly sketch from your files using Asm3 WB.
I reconstructed some files such as Pistón2 and Cigüeñal2 according to an approach which seemed to me more interesting.
For others I made a simple copy in Part WB because there were errors in some sketches which prevented the assembly from working.

Nice job man! Only there's a minor problem and it's that you assembled the cylinder head backguards! (see the picture on the first post). But anyway, is there anyway we could upload this video to Youtube and link it to the documentation page of Assembly 3?

Once that done it would be awesome that other users made the same but with A2 and Assembly 4 to make a real comparison between all these methods!
