Assemble electronic part.

Post by Pettter » Fri Jan 10, 2020 9:23 pm

Hallo.
I am trying to build electronic 3D models for further use in KiCAD. I am currently assembling a column electrolytic capacitor, which has a scratch on the top surface of the cylinder, as a safety valve against explosion in case of failure. And my problem is related to this stupid detail ...

What is my procedure, which I restricted to the cylinder and the scratch:

1. in PartDesing workbench I draw a scratch in the shape of a triangular prism. Save it to "prism" file.
2. In the A2Plus workbench, I create a cross from prisms. I'll add 2 pieces of prism. I rotate one prism through 90 ° and cross it over the top faces with the "add a CenterOfMass constraint"
3. In the Part workbench, I combine the two crossed prisms with the function "Make a union of several shapes" and I have created a cross (I think ...). I'll save it to a cross file.

a, in PartDesing workbench I draw a cylinder. I want to edit it later, so I won't use the Part workbench element. Save cylinder to file "cylinder"

x, in the A2Plus workbench, I add the cylinder and the cross, and combine their upper faces with "add a CenterOfMass constraint"
xx, in Part workbench, I want to subtract prisms from the cylinder with "Make a cut of two shapes", and...

nothing happens! In the tree "Model" I see that both shapes are hidden under the item "cut", but the shape of the cylinder nothing changes ...

What am I doing wrong?

Pettter,

Don't use A2Plus to create one single object. You can use either the Part or Part Design workbench to build the part.

This is an example using the Part Design workbench

Salp! Thank you for your time and willingness to help.

Now I don't care about the capacitor.
I care about what to hell I do wrong in FreeCad, that I cannot achieve the desired result.

It's probably an assembly issue. Moved to appropriate forum.

The Cut is giving a bad result, probably due to the coincidence of the top faces of the cylinder and the cross. If I move the cross up by 0.001 mm, the Cut works.

This seems to be a weak point in OCC.

3 days I am raging, worrying, remodeling and inventing "other" procedures, I froze the inability to solve it ... for 0.1mm. Nice!!!
