Hello,
This a motorized stage to move an optical filter inside a microscope. The project has been designed using FreeCAD Python scripts, so it is fully parametric.
The following parts can be easily 3D-printed without supports:
The design is available here: https://github.com/felipe-m/freecad_filter_stage
which includes more pictures, the Python source code, the generated FreeCAD and STL files, and a small tutorial.
Initially, we started the design using OpenSCAD, and the files are also available: https://github.com/felipe-m/oscad_filter_stage
We have compared the design process using FreeCAD Python scripts and OpenSCAD and have shared the results here: https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0225795

Re: Motorized optical filter stage
A very impressive and thorough article on PLOS.
I wonder if most forummers has overlooked this.
There should be a lot of potential for Freecad to references to this article. Not as a comparison whit another cad program but for the in dept explanation of features.
