I'm sketching an insulated dog house. The roof is on an angle and I want the side beams to reach the top of the roof so they also have an angle.
I thought about using a shapebinder on the roof and then padding up until that face. But then I get the error message 'Pad: Resulting shape is empty'. I believe that is this reported bug: https://tracker.freecadweb.org/view.php?id=4211
The error occurs in the attached freecad file when I try to pad 'Side beam back left' up to the ShapeBinder in that same body.
I can create a new datum plane on the same angle as the roof for each side beam and use that. But is there a better way to achieve this I'm missing?
If I'm not clear in my wording please let me know!
Some help on this would be really appreciated! I've put tens of hours into this, which is fun, but I keep bumping into stuff I can't fix so I would really like to finish this project

Re: Pad up to face of shapebinder
I would use another Sketch which uses the ShapeBinder and "Side beamback left sketch" as external geometries:

Re: Pad up to face of shapebinder
Thanks!! That's a great solution. I couldn't come up with it yesterday...

Re: Pad up to face of shapebinder
You're welcome. It is this "thinking around the corner" which makes 3D modeling inherently more diffcult than 2D modeling - at least for me it took quite some time to get accustomed to it.

Re: Pad up to face of shapebinder
The hardest part for me is determining what features of freecad to use ahead of time so you don't bump into restrictions later while at the same time keeping the model easy to modify. But with a lot of practice and some help I'll get there Thanks again!
Re: Pad up to face of shapebinder
As much as we'd all love there to be no restrictions, in any software, it takes getting into trouble to give you the perspective to avoid the pit falls next time around.

Re: Pad up to face of shapebinder
I just had the same issue. I googled it and my question came up
Howevery, I also found someone with the same problem. Attaching a datum plane to the shape binder allows for padding up to the shape binder. So that's what I did this time.
