Create cross section from a Part

Post by qwerty_f » Mon Oct 19, 2020 10:32 am

I wonder what would be a good way to create a cross-section of a Part. So far I only have seen cross-sections on bodies. But here I have a Part where various bodies are assembled and I want to create another Part which references these assembled bodies.

P.S. I just found the new Link feature which might be a way to solve my issue. I'm open for suggestions, though.

Use Part WB "make compound" of the Part objects (I'm assuming you have yellow part containers), then use Part WB "Cross-sections"

Yes, I'm using the yellow Part. But where do I find that?

(as a side question: where can I find my old posts since I want to edit one)

As I said: "Use Part WB "make compound" of the Part objects (I'm assuming you have yellow part containers), then use Part WB "Cross-sections"

Part WB (workbench) "make compound" Image

Ok, so I found that and made a cross section. But then, how can I use the created cross section for further reference? The documentation about that topic is a bit thin.

At that point it is not really connected to the source object. So, it is not parametric (i.e. if the original object changes it won't follow).

You can convert to a sketch. You can upgrade it to a face. You can extrude it. Some other things as well...

I did not have much luck with that compound. It just behaves weird. Anyhow, I'm just watching this YT video which seems to address my issue in a "intended" way.
