Parameters for initial sketch for symmetry

Post by Sturmrider » Mon Nov 23, 2020 4:33 pm

Hi guys,

I had posted a model before where I had made the sketch on the YZ plane because it was a side view for when I padded it. The result when I posted it was that I should have had it in symmetry with the XY plane as well. My question is before I start sketching on the YZ plane is there a way I can also move the sketch to be symmetrical with the XY plane as well.

I may not be putting this in words the best way, but I am hoping someone understands what I am trying to do. This way when I pad it I just pad symmetrically and it should come out right.

Thank you for your help.

Here is the info on my version of FreeCAD.

Just draw your sketch symmetrical to the appropriate axis in sketcher.

The two axes shown are the orthogonal view of the other planes.

Thank you. I thought I had to move it to the center of the other. I guess I just pad symmetrically from there.

Take care.

The general idea is to place the sketch around the origin in such a way that maximises the use of the std planes for further construction. Sometimes placing the corner of your sketch on the origin is the right way to go.

YMMV, Steve.
