for the little story, i had that question because on the French forum somebody was asking about a new function in an addon. i am myself a newbie of Freecad but beside that, i'm participating to the translation of the wiki pages so i know somewhere a page exists.
so, my first reaction has been: let's go back to the root: the showcase of Freecad https://www.freecadweb.org/ where we have the tab "Documentation" linked to Getting started and where from this page, i will roll out the ball.
on this page, no where we are talking about addons and external workenches... which IMHO is a miss: Freecad, as an open SW, offers the possibility to use and create addons and external workbenches shared by everybody but it is not said on this first page.

refer to above link.I would make the page shorter, and probably point to the User hub.
for me, i'm pretty happy with the getting started wiki it but would be nice to have an introduction to the addons & ext wb and why not refering to the User hub and the catalogue of these extra.
