It is never required to make a full build for Windows unless you want something that is either customized by yourself or released in the past couple of days. The builds mentioned in the links above are updated at frequent intervals.

Chocolately appears to be using exactly the same builds that are on the FreeCAD github releases page. Some people find Chocolately useful for various reasons, but it is plain dirt simple to download from the Releases page, extract with 7-zip, and run. No extra anything needed.

Gene
Looking at the github releases page the last 0.19 one appears to be quite old - the last one listed is 3 Nov 2019

* https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/tags

Looking at Chocolately this seems to be a much more recent version if you use the --pre flag

* https://chocolatey.org/packages/freecad#versionhistory

The last one here appears to be September 13, 2020, with a load of others all listed as within 2020 instead of 2019
but these are dev versions.

This is why I suggested using Chocolately over the github releases page
It may be more or less unstable, but is probably more recent.

Dude, stop spreading misinformation. We are literally the developers and maintainers of the releases, the GitHub release is the most updated package. Chocolatey takes it from there.

You simply don't understand what the numbers mean; the "tag" date indicates when this tag was created, it doesn't tell you the date of the latest package. You need to click it and open the "assets" to find the latest package. These are automatically updated, occasionally there is a missing package due to some error in GitHub or so.

There is an issue with the current Windows build, reported here:

You can download 0.19 from here: https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/rele ... g/0.19_pre.
There is no Windows binary at https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/rele ... g/0.19_pre

Yeah, quite problematic. I wanted to download the latest 0.19 build to keep up to date (use an older 0.19 build right now), but failed to find it yesterday.

If a new build can't be made quickly, maybe put the previous build in the list, such that Fusion360 Refugees have at least the second most recent build. giving them a much better assembly experience than the 0.18 release (Especially the app link is amazing).

Ok so what your saying is the assets are being auto updated on that older tag, I think I understand now
It's a little different from what everyone else does on github, I was assuming the assests associated with the release tag where based on the older commit 34a083b15997a2694bb29328c440225cad976bd9, but that's just when the tag was created
what your actually doing is constantly switching the assets around on that one release tag instead.

It looks like there may be a 0.20 release upcoming which may help things
partly due to the recent debacle with Fusion360

You can download 0.19 from here: https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/rele ... g/0.19_pre.
I find at present (18.09.2020) only Linux and Apple installation files.
FreeCAD_0.19. * - Win-Conda_vc14.x-x86_64 exists only as *.TXT.

Because v0.19 is a development version, the main branch is updated daily, and the package is created from that about once a week. Instead of having 50 releases per year, only one is used for development.
