harmonic analyzer animation

Post by jmfriedt »

Being interested in trying to become familiar with basics of mechanical computer design, I assembled a few animations of the harmonic analyzer [1], or at least the Fourier analysis fraction of its design. Since copying multiple times the same basic gear setup is boring, I wrote the script for automatically generating both the mechanical setup as well as the animation. All files are found at
https://github.com/jmfriedt/harmonic_analyzer_FreeCAD
and movies of the animations are at https://github.com/jmfriedt/harmonic_an ... ster/video
All animation techniques are based on [2] which I found after watching [3]

Further work might involve generalizing to the full harmonic analyzer or possibly the tide predictor, depending on available time and motivation.
For the French reading audience, a draft of the manuscript written while performing these development is at http://jmfriedt.free.fr/hackable_mecanique.pdf which might or might not be published depending on the interest of the editor of the French Hackable journal. I might translate to English if there is any interest.

That's good and all, but you could have posted at least one image here.

What's the point of opening a thread and just linking to a bunch of external pages? Post something nice here so that users get interested in looking at your links. That's the whole point of this subforum.

Same, but replacing cylinders with gears for a more realistic model that could even be manufactured I believe.
