Icons hard to distinguish

Post by chrisb »

The icons for toggling dimensions to/from reference mode and for deactivating dimensions are very similar, in the resolution I use almost indistinguishable:

Is there an artist around having an idea for changing one of these?

Besides I could not find the latter on the Artwork Sketcher wiki page.

I added the missing Sketcher_ToggleActiveConstraint.svg file to the Artwork Sketcher page (I found it on Github). I think it might be a good idea to move this topic to the UX/UI Design board.

All the best,

What about something like that for the 'deactivating' :

I like openBrain's approach as a mixture of the old one and a "no parking" sign.
However, thinking about both icons they show by no means that it's all about dimensions.

Maybe go for a "better" ATM and continue looking for "best". :)

PR 2858 created.

Icon rendering in Qt seems to not support 'clip' so I add to change a bit the SVG. I also changed the color of the diagonal bar because it was awful when integrated in the UI. New file attached.

I like the concept but I dislike the implementation. I don't like the white triangles that "break" the connection between the two squares. It makes them look like they are floating, and are not being cut correctly. In my opinion, the diagonal line should touch the two squares, and it should have a highlight, like the Artwork_Guidelines indicate. Also, that purple color that you use, I'm not sure it's part of the pallette of Tango colors that are used in FreeCAD.

Besides, these triangles actually hide the geometry that is behind with a white background. This wouldn't work properly if the background of the icon is other than white. The actual squares should be boolean cut. This is possible to do in Inkscape.

This is a quick mockup by me. I think bitacovir can come up with a more sensible icon, while respecting your same idea.
