Missing translation ( save , discard , cancel ) ?

Postby markko martin » Fri Dec 28, 2018 10:07 pm

Hi, when you close a freecad file (without saving) there are 3 words without traslation.
Maybe is it only a problem with the Italian translation ?

Thank you ! ;)

These texts are part of the Qt source code and to get them translated the file qt_it.qm from the Qt5 sources must be used and built into the FreeCAD binaries.

Only now I realize that we have several of these qt qm files in the FreeCAD source code. There are many missing, compared to the number of languages we already support. We could update that too. Probably the proper way would be to create two subdirs, one for qt4 and one for qt5 and adapt the qrc and Translator.cpp files.

Or, we could start relying on an external package for these. On debian they are properly part of qtcore4-l10n and qttranslations5-l10n, I guess they should be available on more or less all platforms:

But there too all languages are not there. On my system I only have these:

Code: Select all

/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_ar.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_bg.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_ca.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_cs.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_da.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_de.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_en.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_es.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_fa.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_fi.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_fr.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_gd.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_gl.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_he.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_hu.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_it.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_ja.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_ko.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_lt.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_lv.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_pl.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_pt.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_ru.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_sk.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_sl.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_sv.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_uk.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_zh_CN.qm
/usr/share/qt5/translations/qt_zh_TW.qm
I guess the QT project could use some community-based translation services :)

Or a third way, we could completely discard the official qt translation files and include everything in our own ts files. There are probably not many strings... The problem is, how to find/identify them...

It's probably not worth to put any effort into handling Qt4 & Qt5 since v0.18 will be the last version where Qt4 is actively supported.
There are probably not many strings...
Don't say that! When opening the qtbase*.ts file in QtLinguist there are more than 1000 strings to be translated.
The problem is, how to find/identify them...
You know that these are the strings from the Qt source code, not the FreeCAD sources?

Yes, I know, it's all the builtin qt stuff from when we use standard buttons and other builtin widgets. But anyway, it seems awkward that we need to embed these files... Plus, there is not always a translation available for all the languages that freecad supports...

To get all these strings all what you need is to use one of the existing .ts files and remove the translated part. Then this file can be uploaded to crowdin.
