Problems with a DWG file

Postby founder » Fri Jun 14, 2019 8:09 pm

Just installed FreeCAD on Ubuntu 16.04 LTE.
Just installed ODA

To start with an required steel frame, I downloaded from
https://www.cad-steel.de/product/536

the DWG file from an IPE 160 steel.

Import in FreeCAD, but nothing happens. All empty like before the import attempt.

Hi founder, welcome here.

Could you please post your version info as described in the link in the giant red box on top of the page ?
If you install from distro repo, there is a high chance that your version is outdated. ;)

The FreeCAD info we like to see looks like this. It contains much more than only a naked version number:

Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.19.16933 (Git)

Python version: 3.7.3
Qt version: 5.9.7
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.3.0

Ok so far... but then the Import fails:

Try to Import again, it will fail.
From the pull-down menu go to Edit > Preferences > Import / Export (icon in left pane) > DWG (tab at top of right pane).
Do you have a path specified, enabling FreeCAD to find ODA?

If so, and Import still fails, from the pull-down menu go to Edit > Preferences > General > Output window tab and make sure the Python interpreter (bottom two?) tick-boxes are checked to True and click the Ok button. Then again from the pull-down menu go to View > Panels and make sure "Report view" and Python console" are ticked to True. Try the Import again, and let us know that messages are in the Report View and Python Console, along with you proper Help > About FreeCAD > Copy to Clipboard info as mentioned.

I walked through the steps using:

OS: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
Word size of OS: 32-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 32-bit
Version: 0.18.1.
Build type: Release
Python version: 3.6.7
Qt version: 5.9.5
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 7.3.0
Locale: English/UnitedStates (en_US)
