Gordon Curve Boolean Cut

Postby gsandy » Sun Nov 10, 2019 10:06 pm

I have two Gordon curves and wish to make a Boolean cut to remove portions as shown in screen shot. Can this be done? Or would there be a better way to do this?

To get the Outer LHS and Outer RHS to union I had to move them together slightly.

I remade your guides sketch. Use sublinks (LatticeWb) to extract two guides.
Made solids (CurvesWb) from the surfaces to slice (partWB->split) them together.
Facebinders (DraftWb) to select the rights faces and then, offset 3D.
Use the connect feature (partWB->join) with a 0.1mm for tolerance to join all parts.

Wow GlouGlou that's amazing! I have down loaded your file and will spend the next day or two getting my head around what you have done.
Thanks again. Cheers Sandy

When I create a solid, from the CurvesWB, for both the Gordon Curve and Ruled Surface, and then check the geometry (from the PartWB) I get an error as per attached. This happens even with your downloaded model!
I downloaded the latest FreeCad 18.4 to make sure I was up to date. Should I install FreeCad 19?

Why did you redraw "Side sweep path remade"?
When I try to edit this sketch it appears for a few seconds and then disappears!
All the other sketches can be edited OK.

yes you're right. Complex surfaces give often a lot of BOP errors. At this point, I don't know how to avoid that. But we can handle them anyway.

I modified Top sweep path and bot sweep path as well.
Because your curves didn't be in contact with the profiles.
